Teaching and Learning Activities Conducted in Courses
Introduction to the course
In my first class, beside the course introduction, I usually aim to make students feel comfortable attending. To achieve this, I always start with a Mentimeter activity to understand their emotions, as most students are hesitant to share their feelings verbally. This allows them to express their emotions through words instead.
Active learning
To foster active learning, I also use Mentimeter, ensuring that nearly all students respond to my questions.
Lecture by invited speakers
For certain course, the lecture session will also include a few online sessions with a professor at Universiti Sumatera Utara, Indonesia. It led to a fruitful discussion between the students and the professor.
Practical sessions
Practical sessions are also conducted to enhance students' hands-on skills. The students are divided into groups and perform the experiments according to the laboratory manual.
Virtual experiments
Some of the practical sessions are conducted virtually. These virtual experiments provide students with opportunities to engage in the scientific process and observe phenomena related to food processing.
Industrial visit
Occasionally, industrial visits are organized to give students exposure to the industry. During the visit there will be talk and demonstrations by the staff.
