THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY ACHIEVEMENT IN T&L INNOVATION
Receiving the trophy for the Best Mode Blended learning experience, UniCel 2018.
Three years after joining UniSZA, I received my first award in education for Best Mode Blended learning experience during UniSZA Carnival on e-learning, 2018.
The surprise was not only for me but also the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the Vice Chancellor who happened to be from the Faculty of Medicine. I was aware but no one would expect any education award would go to the Faculty of Medicine since medicine has minimal room for innovation? Ironically, Medicine is the only fraternity which has its own Medical Education subspeciality.
Thank you UniSZA!

Not only that I received the award, my team and me won TWO gold medal entitled Go-Screen & Be-Timely. My congratulations goes to you Dr Nurulhuda & Dr Siti Norazlina!

What brings to my recognition in Mode Blended learning?
Coming to the Faculty of Medicine where the medical programme was rather new at the time, e –learning was also new to the faculty. Being an enthusiastic lecturer from a more senior university (Universiti Sains Malaysia), I was eager to contribute to the faculty. And since education is my passion, I was determined to create a learning platform that would be useful to my students.
It was like building a new home from its foundation. And gradually my home (Family Medicine course) has developed its e-learning course over the years.
This is the video slides which I presented during the pitching exercise for the award.
What have I achieved since 2018? The latest one is when my team & I created and e book & a video for UniCel 2022. We won second place for short video on teaching & learning and TWO Gold Medal for an e-book on teaching.
Bravo to all my team members!
e-clinipractice is an e-book with embedded videos on practical skills where videos were attached in the e-book using a QR code. Students can learn practical skills using the videos as well as it can be used for revisions

I-Persona is a self-help e-book that can help medical interns adapting their lives during internship. this e-book is one our outputs from our FRGS-RACER grants. This e-book is also a supplementary output by our postgraduate students from this grant

Our short video was telling a story on how we can use our e-clinipractice in students especially during COVID-19 time. Students can use the e-book even if they were unable to attend class since the e-book includes practical videos inside.
Interested to know about our winning e-book? Let’s enjoy the video on YouTube.
And..... You want to watch our winning video? Let's enjoy the YouTube video.
This short video also shows how it is useful to assist student for independent learning.

From UniCel 2022, My team & I went to IUCeL 2022 for our e-book e-clinipractice & I-persona. We managed to win 2 silver medals.

THE JOURNEY OF INNOVATION FROM 2015 TO 2022
The year 2017 was the year I started prospering in my teaching & learning innovation and creativity. It started with IIDEL UniCel 2017 and then followed by Minggu Penyelidikan & Inovasi UniSZA 2018.

MINGGU PENYELIDIKAN & INOVASI 2018
In MPI 2018, my team & I grabbed one silver medal & one bronze medal.
Congratulations to my team again, Dr Nurulhuda & Dr Siti Norazlina

GO SCREEN: MPI 2018

This innovation is a Health Screening Application. Its main purpose is to help the public decide which health screenings they should undergo for disease prevention. It helps patients on a common problem: many people are unsure about suitable screening tests. Users download the application, enter their background information, and the programme analyses the data. It then provides screening recommendations, reasons for the suggestions, and guidance on the patient’s next action. The app is available in Malay and English, making it accessible to more users. This Apps can also be used by medical students to practice on their screening knowledge.

INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE (IMEC) 2018
Task-oriented log book
Following the achievement in MPI 2018 & UniCEl 2018, I expanded my innovation in teaching towards work-based assessment.
The first innovation was on the family medicine course logbook, from the traditional free case clerking to task-oriented logbook. The changes & students feedback finding were presented at the IMEC 2018.
The new logbook replaced the conventional version, which mainly recorded patient details and brief case summaries. The task-based logbook included 17 common primary care topics and guided students to answer essential questions related to chronic disease, women’s health, child health, and preventive care. Feedback was collected at the end of posting using four questions. Students felt the new logbook was useful and more effective for learning theory and clinical skills. However, they also found it time-consuming, so improvement is needed.

Our students perceived that the new logbook is useful and more effective in guiding them to learn family medicine than the old logbook. However, it is time consuming to complete. The logbook may need to be improved to suit medical students’ time.
How we change the traditional logbook to a task-based logbook
Our traditional logbook is a typical booklet with empty slots for medical students to fill in & write the cases that they see. It was a simple book without much information.

Traditional logbook
In our revised & improved logbook, the book has been improved to include tasks that students have to do, such as questions that guide students when they see their patients. This logbook is aimed to guide medical students through their courses.
In 2025 the logbook was convert to full digital version using Canva with the help of a fellow lecturer, Dr Nur Aiza Idris. The digital logbook is more friendly to use, handy, can be used anywhere without the physical book. Our students love the digital version which can be opened using either tablet or mobile phone.
INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE (IMEC) 2018
Work-based assessment
My team and I also proposed and carried out a student project called ‘Health Promotion Project’ where this activity is used as a teaching & learning activity as well as a work-based assessment.
Students learning is being evaluated through real clinical activities. In the Family Medicine posting, students carried out a Health Promotion Project in health clinics, working with patients, doctors, educators, and other healthcare staff. Through this workplace task, they practised communication, teamwork, professionalism, leadership, and problem-solving. Feedback was collected using an online survey to assess students’ perceptions of soft-skill development. The results suggest that the activity helped students improve important competencies beyond knowledge. Overall, the poster supports health promotion projects as meaningful workplace-based learning and assessment activities.

Our students felt that the HPP was useful in developing their soft skills. HPP should be continued as one of the activities during family medicine posting.

ARE YOU WONDERING WHAT IS HEALTH PROMOTION PROJECT AND HOW IT BECOMES AN EFFECTIVE TEACHING METHOD?
Let's watch this video.
UNICEL 2019
For UniCEL 2019, my team & I participated in three innovation and we managed to win one gold and two silver for our product.
Our innovations were applications for helping those with addiction, applications for learning health screening topic as well as education for the public on health screening and the use of Powtoon video in our course online teaching.
The PowToon video project was among my first trial of using online animated video. Learning from YouTube, I managed to create several short PowToon video as an online instructional strategy to replace face-to-face lectures in the MBBS Family Medicine programme at UniSZA. The topic used was Good Prescribing Habit for Year 5 medical students. Students completed a pre-video quiz, watched the PowToon lecture, and then answered a post-video quiz. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge after watching the video. Most students felt the video could replace face-to-face lectures. The poster highlights benefits such as flexible learning time, repeat viewing, easy access, reduced cost, and suitability for Generation Y and Z learners.
Another big congratulation to my team Dr Nurulhuda Mat Hassan & Dr Siti Norazlina Juhari. We work together, we win together!

UNICEL 2020
My team & I are consistent in bringing innovation in teaching & learning. In UniCeL 2021, we won gold for our innovation

In UniCeL 2020, we created a winning flipped classroom method of teaching using augmented reality clinical skills. It was inspired by the difficult time of COVID-19 when students have limitations to practice in real patients. Bravo to our team especailly our team leader Dr Mohd Faeiz Pauzi
IUCEL 2021
In 2021, my team & I focused on the flipped classroom, which is the trend of teaching during the COVID-19 period. We managed to win gold & bronze.
